For ASCEM B.V. we are looking for a:
Research and Development employee
To be part of the development & implementation of sustainable binders for either a starter (HBO or WO Chemistry or Material Science) or for an experienced scientist who possibly wants to do a PhD.
Work location: Rheden, minimum 32 hours/week
Who are we?
We are ASCEM, the research and knowledge institute of the BTE Group! We deal with all aspects of concrete. This includes the composition, application, properties of the various materials and admixtures and the development of alternative binders. Durability, lifespan and circularity are a daily fare for us. In the long term, we want to make concrete CO2-neutral and our products circular. That is quite a challenge. That is why we work with a specialised team dedicated to and with passion on these issues. We are part of the BTE Group, an organisation with specialised concrete companies such as Romein, Kemper, Vebo, Lodewikus, De Meteoor, Hercules, De Hamer and Steenhuis.
What will you be doing?
As a Research and Development employee you are closely involved in the developing, managing and evaluating the field of inorganic binders. You will do this by initiating and (co-)carrying out research and development in an interdisciplinary team. In practice, this means that you will work proactively and independently on various research projects. You monitor and report on the planning, progress, set project requirements and the realisation of your own work within the (sub)project, and you signal deviations. In addition, you identify improvement opportunities and initiate research projects and compile the necessary resources for this.
Are you a Wo-candidate and are you more experienced? Then we can offer you a more extensive and demanding package of tasks!
You initiate cooperatives with external parties, work together with external parties in your field of work (national & international cooperative projects) and monitor the activities towards the involved project members. You become proficient with new methods and contribute to the development of those to analyse and predict the reactivity and reactions of inorganic binders. You apply newly developed knowledge in thermodynamic modelling of binder reactions. You develop and optimise binder compositions, which make durable concrete possible.
For you as a WO-candidate, we even have another great offer. We can offer you the opportunity to obtain a PhD at one of our cooperation partners. We would like to discuss these possibilities with you!
In this position, you will report to the Director of ASCEM.
What do you bring?
- A successfully completed Bachelor's or Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Materials Science in the field of binders, glass and/or mineralogy (or comparable).
- You have experience to work project based during and/or after your studies.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of inorganic binders, e.g., synthesis & forms of inorganic binders, preferably ample experience with analytical methods to characterise the reaction products, an advantage is experience with thermodynamic modelling. If you do not possess this knowledge, you are willing to acquire it through study, education and training.
- Knowledge of concrete technology is an advantage, or you are willing to acquire this knowledge through education.
- Good command of the English language orally and in writing. Dutch is the main language on the work floor; if you do not master this language, you will be expected to 'get the hang of it'. Knowledge of German is advantageous.
- You have affinity with the field of 'sustainability'. You are driven to make the world a better place by developing and optimising binders for sustainable concrete products.
Apart from these measurable qualities, we are convinced that as a Research & Development employee you should also have the following competences: having and obtaining insight into situations, problems and processes. And also, being able to unravel problems and investigate these components in a systematic way. And having a complete picture of the context and an overview of the whole. It is also important that you are good at planning and organising you know better than anyone how to set goals and priorities and how to indicate the actions, time and resources needed to achieve these goals. Finally, you have the ability to monitor the responsibilities and advancement of processes, tasks or activities of yourself and your colleagues. We think you should recognise yourself in these qualities to make this position a success.
What do you get in return?
All locations within the BTE Group, and therefore also ASCEM, have an informal culture in which there is room for personal development in addition to hard work. We regularly hear from our employees that they consider us a good employer. The fact that, through our own BTE Academy or external training courses, there are various ways for you to develop as an employee that will certainly play a role in this. We find it important that you can continue to develop yourself, also in the future. With the aim of making a valuable contribution to our company, you can also build on your own future. We are therefore keen to invest in the further training and development of our employees. You will be offered the opportunity to obtain a PhD at one of our university partners (if you meet the requirements).
Needless to say, that we can offer you a good salary. An end of the year bonus is part of the employment conditions package. In addition to a collective health insurance, you can also use our exchange of schemes within the employment conditions package. This way, you can (to a certain extent) put together your own package.
